We are breaking the mould of Sydney’s fine dining scene, providing diners the ability to experience the full range of Darrell’s creativity.

The six course tasting menu is an opportunity to share eleven dishes with ten matched wines. We want to give you the full experience in one luxurious sitting.

A unique offering in a city so often restricted by rules and traditions.

 

I am inspired by the different, the unusual and the wrong.

Since opening Foveaux in 2007, I have sought inspiration for my menus from traditional lessons, childhood experiences and the mundane.

I am driven by challenge, change and the unusual. I want people to wonder, to feel trepidation as they choose their dish. I don’t do food by numbers, it bores me. I want change, I want weird, I want to do what hasn’t been done.

The challenge of combining the unusual is what keeps me going, we don’t believe in sitting on our laurels, I always wonder what will shock people, what will.

I try things that people deride, that people frown upon, that people don’t expect. What haven’t people tried.

“ It’s hard to believe that the youthful-looking Darrell Felstead in the open kitchen has been an integral part of Sydney dining since the 90’s, what with Forty One, Banc, Post, Prime and The Restaurant at 3 Weeds all on his track record. Yet the food hitting the perfectly pressed, double-clothed tables of his sleek, sandstone-walled Surry Hills hideaway is very much of the here and now. Witness the dramatic pairing of meltingly tender deboned quail with a crunchy smoked eel croquette and forceful caper puree, or the dream team combo of caramelised veal tongue with fat, delicate scampi and velvety sea urchin custard. He can do delicate – a dish of sweet, clean-tasting leatherjacket with braised rabbit and peas is impressive – but isn’t scared of powerful flavours, either. A perfectly fine ginger sponge with carrot marmalade didn’t turn heads, but it’s about the only thing that didn’t. The elegantly pale, blond room and louche bar downstairs make it quite the romantic choice.”

Corporate restaurant

Foveaux welcomes corporate events and are able to provide for private dining and room hire.

We can cater for groups sized up to 50 people. The dining room can be converted to suit different occasions with a large board room available.

Our menu can range from a six course tasting menu or a reduced a la carte menu.

We are also able to tailor the menu to your needs or to create a themed menu based on the event that you have planned.

Our staff

Our staff are experienced in running events and has worked on weddings, corporate lunches, media events and product launches. We are always open to your suggestions.

The Red Door

The Red Door is the perfect venue for your next event, whether it is a media event, cocktail party or team building exercise we can tailor a package.

We have set canapé packages available and we are also able to tailor food and beverages based on your needs.
